Samode
is a quaint land in the lap of barren Aravallis, lying at a distance of 50
km from Jaipur. Its popularizing factor mainly is its artistic work and
grandeur of its palaces and havelis. The village of Samode is equally an
attraction here, with a vibrant display of cultural heritage and folk
traditions of the place.
A leisurely walk in the villages of Samode will be like observing a crafts
museum. This is because you will find here many skilled artisans, who are
busy crafting and drafting out their priceless creations including miniature
paintings, glass bangles and mirrorwork pieces.
The central attraction on the Thar's canvas is the Samode Palace, which
pulls tourists for its magnetic exuberance and regal elements. It was build
some 400 years ago by the Rawals of Samode but until the 19th century, it
remained nothing more than a worn out fort. Most of its present day
attractions were conjoined with it during the 19th century.
It has a stately charm and elegance can be witnessed from its interiors,
that adorn exquisite meenakari work, hand painted pillars, jali work,
mirrorwork, miniature paintings and murals. It has served as a residence to
the family of Rawals, to the Chief Minister in the Jaipur Royal Court and
next it line could be you, as you can avail the services of this
monument-cum- heritage hotel. It offers contemporary comforts along with the
royal experience of the bygone era.

Before the Samode Palace was erected, the Rawal kings used to stay at the
Samode Fort, which lies on a hill above the palace. The dilapidated and
gloomy structure will let your brains have wings and fly in the fantasy
world to imagine how the princely fort used to be full of activity in the
chapters of the bygone era. If you are interested in exploring the
unexplored, then you can go searching for the hidden routes within the
castle.
Built by Rawal Sheo Singh, there is a Mughal style inspired garden too,
where the royal family once used to spend some pleasure moments. It is
called the Samode Bagh. The green pavilions, interspersed with water
channels and fountains, is a recreated and restored version of the erstwhile
royal retreat. A stylish eatery located here is the Durbar Tent, which
offers you an awesome experience of food, folk music and camp fires. There
are also facilities for camel rides and swimming.
