Introduction
The dreamlike beauty of Lake Palace is a must see on your trip to Udaipur. The tourist map of Udaipur is not complete without an inclusion of Lake Palace. Standing modestly amidst shimmering lake waters of Lake Pichola, the palace has attracted many globetrotters. Sprawling in a vast area of 1.5 hectares in size, the elegant structure is a gem of marble in the Jagniwas Island.

Originally the palace was built by Maharaja Jagat Singh II in 1754, but Bhagwat Singh extended it and the marvelous palace has been now turned into a hotel with all modern and luxuries amenities. As Maharana Udai Singh II was very fascinated with the Mughal architecture, the artisans were instructed thereby to imitate the style that of the structures in Agra. The succeeding emperors of Mewar treated the palace as a summer retreat and enjoyed in the royal durbars (courts), in the courtyards lined with columns, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens rendering it an impressive image. The formidable exteriors have graceful interiors of cuspidial arches, inland stones of pink and green lotus leaves with painted mirrors.

The palace has been lavishly embellished by the builders of it. No stone was left unturned to beautify it. There are some of the attractions which obviously entice the visitors. They love to explore the apartments in the palace like Bada Mahal, Kush Mahal, Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal and Dhola Mahal. These apartments are exquisitely adorned and are a beholder's delight. Each room has been decorated with a particular theme and textile and handicrafts of the region. The contemporary heritage hotel has many beautifully crafted deluxe rooms and suites. Adding to the charm are the coffee shops, jewelery and souvenir shops.

Sightseeing around Lake Palace, Udaipur Rajasthan :

Arsi Vilas: It is a much smaller island built by a former Maharana of Udaipur to see the sunset. The landing attached to the island was used as a heliport in the bygone eras.

Lake Pichola: The lovely lake Pichola was extended by the former king of Mewar, Maharana Udai Singh II, who founded the city as well. Some crocodiles are believed to reside in the distant parts of lake.
