Rao Jodha in 1459 laid the foundation of the phenomenal fort in Jodhpur which is now one of the biggest forts of not only Rajasthan but also India. Later additions by the succeeding rulers enhanced the beauty of th effort. The bewitching site of the fort captivates visitors attention. Follow the 125 m high hill range and the height of the fort becomes quite apparent. Looking with domination over the city, the fort is located on the exalted elevation of 400 feet (122 m) above the city enveloped by stubborn walls. The period halls, the massive gates, the museum, the temple, the cenotaph - all embellish the fort.

Architecture of Mehrangarh Fort :
The Fort is noteworthy because of its architecture. The architecture is so wonderful that the visitors are awestruck by its very sight. The monarchs of Mewar have well executed their fantasies in the fort. The interiors, courtyards, facades, arcades and halls of the palace, are all specimens of Rajputana architecture. By seeing the fort, the travelers can say that the rulers had spent lavishly on the construction of fort. The colorful windows of the Baithak, the sitting area, offer a superb view to the eyes. The fort has a series of apartments adorned with glided wood, Murano glassware, Chinese tiles. These artifacts remind the visitors of the glorious past.
