Eklingji
& Nagda:
Owing to the presence of 108 ancient shrines of Lord Shiva, Eklingji holds
an important place as a pilgrimage destination. These temples date back to
734 AD, when Maharaja Raimal constructed these marble and sandstone temples.
It is situated 22 km from the city bus stand and further 1 km from here is
located Nagda, where you will find a collection of Jain temples belonging to
10th century. An interesting set of temples are the Saas-Bahu temples which
date back to the 9th century.
Haldighati:
Famous as the site of the legendary Haldighati battle of 1576, in which
Maharana Pratap came face to face with the Mughals, it attracts many Indian
visitors who are curious to witness the area that holds so much importance
in the Indian history. The site commemorates the loyalty of Chetak, Maharana
Pratap's horse, who helped his master till his last breadth. Haldighati is
situated 40 km to the north of Udaipur.
Nathdwara:
Nathdwara or 'the gate of Lord' is a Vaishnavite pilgrimage centre, famous
for Srinathji Temple devoted to Lord Krishna. It holds a beautiful 12th
century statue of the deity which was brought from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh,
to protect it during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The temple is
also famous for Pichwai paintings that depict Lord Krishna adorned in
different costumes. It is situated on the Banas River, 48 km to the north of
Udaipur.

Kankroli & Rajsamand Lake:
Kankroli, 66 km from Udaipur, is known for its temple of Dwarkadheesh or
Lord Krishna, which is situated on the banks of Rajsamand Lake. Rajsamand or
Rajsamudra Lake is the second largest artificial lake of Asia. It was built
in 1660 by Rana Raj Singh as a relief to the drought and famine victims of
the area. It also aided in irrigating the agriculture lands that were
effected by droughts.
Kumbalgarh:
84 km from Udaipur lies the majestic Kumbalgarh Fort, built by Rana Kumbha
in the 15th century. The journey to this fort, on the winding roads of the
Aravallis, with amazing views of the cityscapes, is simply one of the best
attractions of the place. The impressive fort commands attention with its
strong ramparts, huge gateways, thick walls and a number of gardens and
palaces including Badal Mahal. Another important tourist site of Kubalgarh
is its wildlife sanctuary which is known for its Wolves, Sloth Bears and
Leopards.
Ranakpur:
Ranakpur is located on your way from Udaipur to Jodhpur. It is famous for
the Jain Temples situated here, the prominent one being the Chaumukha Mandir
devoted to Jain Tirthankar Lord Adinath. It was built in 1439 during the
reign of Rana Kumbha. The temples are beautified with pillared courtyards
and carved nymphs and columns.
Narlai:
Though the place is more known for its Jain and Hindu temples, but this
scenic place will grab your attention more with its flora and fauna. Narlai
is situated 140 km from Udaipur, at the foothills of Aravallis. A relatively
infamous place, but surely the tourists would love to explore the caves and
temples of Narlai. You can also visit Rawla Narlai, which is a well kept
royal hunting lodge. It still preserves the antique furnishings and frescoes
of that period.
Ghanerao:
Ghanerao is a serene village situated in the Pali district of Rajasthan. It
is known for its Hindu and Jain temples, step wells and a castle which is
now converted into a hotel. Don't forget to visit the Mucchal Temple which
has a legend attached to it relating to Lord Mahavira who appeared here with
mustaches to prove a priest's belief right.
